In my last post, I talked about why Latter-day women are feeling a call to righteously influence the world. If you’ve been following along, then I’m sure you’re here because you feel it too. If you’re not sure what you’re meant to do, start by identifying your unique spiritual gifts. That’s a great place to start. And if you do know what you’ve been called to do, take a look at the obstacles that may be standing in your way.
The truth is that each and every one of us have been called to do something and the worlds needs us right now. So whether you are starting at square one or you have been sharing your light for a long time, the call is the same. The world needs you to accomplish these three things.
Be Faithful
Faithful women stand out not because they have managed to avoid the difficulties of life—quite the opposite. They stand out and are a light to the world because of the way they face the trials of life. Being faithful in the world today isn’t easy, but I believe that as the world becomes more wicked, faithful women are becoming more righteous.
It takes more than believing or even knowing a truth. President Hinckley said: “When I discuss faith, I do not mean it in an abstract sense. I mean it as a living, vital force with recognition of God as our Father and Jesus Christ as our Savior.” The world needs your faith in action. Which leads beautifully to the next point…
Speak Out
President Nelson pleaded with the sisters of the Church when he said, “Whatever your calling, whatever your circumstances, we need your impressions, your insights, and your inspiration. We need you to speak up and speak out.”
I don’t believe that statement to mean that you always need to speak against certain issues that you or the Church may not agree with. Bearing your testimony with love is another great way to speak out. But one of the best ways to speak out is to teach. President Nelson also said, “Attacks against the Church, its doctrine, and our way of life are going to increase. Because of this, we need women who have a bedrock understanding of the doctrine of Christ and who will use that understanding to teach and help raise a sin-resistant generation.”
Gather Israel
My dear friend, Rhonda Steed, said, “The prophet is calling us, the women of the church, to play a major role in the gathering of Israel. The Lord has things for us to do. Not only that, he is saying there are special things for each one of us to do with our individual spiritual gifts.” Much of what is accomplished in the Church is due to the selfless service of women, in their own unique capacities.
President Nelson said, “Your virtue, light, love, knowledge, courage, character, faith, and righteous lives will draw good women of the world, along with their families, to the Church in unprecedented numbers!”
This is the work we have been asked to do. It doesn’t matter whether you are preaching full-time, raising children, or creating something to share with the world – the world needs you. Can I quote our prophet enough? I think not, so here’s one more. President Nelson also said, “the gathering of Israel is the most important thing taking place on Earth today. Nothing else compares in magnitude, in importance, in majesty. And if you choose to, you can be a part of it.”
You can be a part of it, and I can help. Stay tuned for future blog posts where we will dive in to how you can find your specific niche and purpose so you can answer the call!
