After weeks of research and several days of use, I’m excited to finally share the best “first phone” for kids. Enter Troomi Wireless. If you know me, you know that I don’t take smartphones lightly, especially when it comes to kids of any age. A couple years ago, we got a Gabb phone for my middle son, and a Gabb watch for my youngest. I loved the watch and think that’s the perfect device for a kid who doesn’t quite need a phone yet, but would still like to have some sort of communication. However, I wasn’t really impressed with the Gabb phone. But I’ll get to that in a minute.
My youngest is about to start Jr. High school, so we wanted him to have more than just a watch. As I mentioned before, I did weeks worth of research: from pulling up the websites of four different companies and comparing them side by side, to searching dozens of posts on “Mom blogs” and Facebook groups. And here is why Troomi won by a landslide.

Why I (the parent) Love It
- Set-Up: As soon as I turned on the phone, it did all the set-up for me! All I did was enter our WiFi password and it took care of the rest. You can even port their current phone numbers over.
- Parent Portal: Troomi’s parent portal is the most user-friendly way to monitor, approve, set time limits, and organize all the things. It would be really hard to miss any safety features this thing can offer.
- Apps: There are a ton more apps available to use than any other “kid phone” I’ve seen. Unlike Gabb, my boys can now use GroupMe, Gospel Library, and even Canvas (for school), without ever needing the internet.
- GPS: Enough said.
- Affordable: This was by far the best deal in my opinion. There are two phone options, and three plan options. Troomi was almost the same in price as most other plans, if not cheaper. But the value you get is much better by far! Plus, you can get $50 off with code BECKYSQUIRE.

Why My Kids Love It
- More Case Options: Since Troomi uses a Samsung phone, there are a ton of phone case options! My boys both opted for this one because it’s durable and has a cool magnet thing that also lets it stand up.
- Apps: My son who’s going into 9th grade is especially excited to have Canvas for school so he can finally use his phone to turn in homework. I’m not going to lie, I’m excited about that too.
- Games: Troomi has several game apps you can download, but only with approval. Plus, all the games are “offline,” meaning there’s no chance they can connect or chat with strangers. My boys love playing Chess, Sudoku, and Color by number.
- Internet Option: Yes, there is a KidSmart internet browser if you choose to enable it. So far, we have it disabled. But once they’re a little older we don’t have to switch phones for that option.
- Camera: After using his old phone camera, my son was thrilled to finally have a nice camera! He loves taking pictures and videos and the images are way better with a Troomi phone.
When it comes to finding the perfect phone for kids, Troomi wireless is the clear winner to me. Its features and functionalities are specifically designed to cater to the needs and safety of young users. With its reliable parental controls, customizable restrictions, and robust security measures, parents can have peace of mind knowing that their children are protected in the digital world. Troomi wireless is the ideal companion for kids, providing a wholesome digital experience while nurturing responsible digital habits.
