You don’t have to look far to find bloggers, influencers, or even commenters misinterpreting and disrespecting the garment for all the internet to see. Some share uninformed opinions, while others share straight up lies. So, in my efforts to share goodness, I thought I would share an (unfortunately) uncommon perspective: uplifting ways to think about wearing garments!
Wearing the garments of the holy priesthood is a deeply personal and sacred practice for members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. While it may seem like a simple act of putting on special underclothing, it carries profound spiritual significance. Despite what you may find on the internet, they are not “magic underwear.” In fact, they are so much more than underwear. Yes, they are sacred, so writing about them here is something I do with reverence and respect.
12 Uplifting Ways to Think About Wearing Garments
- I don’t want my Heavenly Father to ever put his commitment to me in a drawer when it’s not convenient. Why would I do the same?
- They are a blessing and physical reminder of His love and my covenants.
- LDS garments are a reminder of my divine worth. Knowing that I am clothed in symbols of holiness can instill a sense of self-respect and dignity. It encourages me to see myself as a child of God, worthy of love and respect.
- I love the opportunity to symbolically and literally put on the power of Christ every single day.
- My garments are a tangible reminder of God’s love for me.
- When we choose to wear garments, we choose to bring Christ to the center of our life each day.
- Garments of the holy priesthood are a direct reminder that men and women have priesthood power and authority.
- The way I treat the garment is not a reflection of the way I feel about the garment, it’s a reflection of the way I feel about the Giver of the garment.
- I respect my garments and wear them daily because I respect God, and I want to show Him how I feel about Him every single day, not just when it’s convenient or trendy.
- Wearing the garment is a very personal decision of what kind of relationship we want to have with the Savior.
- I can’t think of a time where I would want to think, “today I’ve decided not to take upon myself the name of Jesus Christ.”
- There is literal power placed upon me when I put on the garment.
Maybe these thoughts will give you a new perspective or maybe they will just inspire you. Either way, I hope you continue to attend the temple and study the importance of the garment of the holy priesthood. What thought would you add?
