Faith Building Books for LDS Teens

faith building books for teens

Teens today are faced with challenges and temptations like never before. Besides protecting them with the armor of God, there are many ways to help prepare them for this world. As parents we want to teach and preach, but that’s not always easy or even the right thing to do all the time. That’s why I compiled this list of faith building books for LDS teens.

If you have kids who aren’t big on reading, consider reading aloud to them. Read as much as you think is enjoyable to them—whether that’s a chapter or just a few pages a day. And if your teens do enjoy reading, there will definitely be at least one or two books on this list that they will like. These were all recommended by fellow parents and/or teens themselves!

How Do I Know if I Know?

This was the most recommended book by far! I haven’t read it yet, but I already ordered it for my kids. Plus, you can’t go wrong with John Bytheway.

Perfect in Christ: The Good News of God s Grace

This book will help your teen more fully partake of Christ s grace, peace, hope, love, and rest. The good news of God s grace replaces feelings of guilt, shame, and inadequacy with joy, excitement, and confidence. Plus, I heard that it was written by a teen! I haven’t verified, but if so, that makes it even cooler!

The Continuous Atonement for Teens

If you haven’t read The Continuous Atonement by Brad Wilcox, it is a landmark work that helps to clarify what the Atonement is–and what it is not. It corrects misperceptions and offers hope to those who struggle again and again. This teen adaptation will help teenagers better understand and apply the Atonement in their lives and help them teach the nuances of the Atonement to others, whether on a mission, at home, or with friends.

Spirit: The Gift That Connects You to Heaven

When I read this book, the number one thing that kept coming to mind was how much this would help my teens! I think one of the most common questions we ask ourselves is, “how do I know if that was the Spirit?” This book will help answer that question and teach you how the Spirit can work in your life. And don’t miss its companion books: Almighty and Redeemer.

Be Happy

This is a quick read, but super uplifting and motivating. You can be happy—solidly, genuinely happy—no matter what’s going on around you, no matter what happens to you, no matter what storm comes along to batter and bruise you. Your teen will love it!

Book of Mormon Made Easier For Teens

Let’s move on to some resources to help your teen study the scriptures. This is such a great set of books to help your teens understand the Book of Mormon. The adult set is one of my favorites.

Come Follow Me for Teens

How is your Come Follow Me going with your teens? Involve your teen with your family’s weekly 2024 Come Follow Me scripture study and lessons of the Book of Mormon with this study guide and activity book.

Sunday Notepad

This is a weekly reflection goal journal that can inspire your teen to become more like Christ. The weekly reflection pages encourage taking attributes from Jesus’ own life and applying them to ours.

The Work and the Glory Series

And finally, I wanted to share a couple fiction series. The first (and best IMO) is The Work and the Glory. This series takes you through Church history with a fictional family. My kids learned SO much about Church history and honestly strengthened their testimonies of Joseph Smith and the restoration with these books.

Children of the Promise Series

My kids haven’t read this series yet, but they were highly recommended by other parents of teens. Have you read these?

  1. Great suggestions!

I read work and the glory as a teenager and it greatly strengthened me. I also read Children of the Promise during that time, and it is my all-time favorite series.

It might be little “heavier” but I recently read “Are Mormons Christian” and I found it easy to read and addresses many of the things I see other Christians throwing around about members of the Church. Might be good for an older teen.
