10,000 Reasons Your Teen Should Go to FSY

reasons your teen should go to fsy

One of the most powerful experiences for every single one of my teens has been going to FSY. Every time they go, they come back with a better attitude toward life, more friends, and a strengthened testimony. What more could a parent ask for? If you’re not familiar with FSY, it’s basically the updated version of EFY. Still lost? FSY is a week-long experience, usually held at a college or university, for teens to grow in many social and spiritual ways. You can learn more about it here. Reasons your teen should go to fsy.

My kids absolutely love it, but I know many youth who don’t know have anyone to go with, or who just aren’t quite sure they want to go. After talking to some parents and youth who were a bit hesitant to try out FSY, I decided to write a post about all the wonderful benefits. So, here are 10,000 (ish) reasons your teen should go to FSY.

Spiritual Growth

FSY places a strong emphasis on spiritual growth. Through daily devotionals, scripture study, and prayer, youth are immersed in an environment that encourages them to strengthen their testimonies, deepen their understanding of gospel principles, and develop a personal relationship with their Heavenly Father.

Connection and Friendship

One of the most significant benefits of FSY is the opportunity for LDS youth to build connections with peers who share their faith. These friendships provide a strong support system, fostering a sense of unity and understanding that can be invaluable in navigating the challenges of adolescence. My kids have made lasting friendships that still hold strong today.

Leadership Development

FSY conferences offer workshops and activities designed to develop leadership skills among youth. From team-building exercises to service projects, kids learn to lead with integrity, compassion, and a commitment to the principles outlined in the For the Strength of Youth pamphlet.

Positive Role Models

The conferences often feature speakers and leaders who serve as positive role models for the youth. These individuals share personal experiences, insights, and testimonies that inspire and guide them, showing them the possibilities of living a faithful and fulfilling life.

Goal Setting and Decision-Making Skills

FSY provides practical workshops on goal setting, decision-making, and time management. These skills are crucial for navigating the complexities of life and help youth make choices aligned with their values and beliefs.

Cultural Awareness

With teens coming from various backgrounds and regions, FSY promotes cultural awareness and diversity. This exposure helps LDS youth appreciate the global nature of the Church and fosters a sense of inclusivity and understanding.

Service Opportunities

Engaging in service projects during FSY allows youth to put their faith into action. Acts of service not only benefit the community but also instill a sense of responsibility and compassion in the hearts of the youth.

Confidence Building

FSY encourages youth to step out of their comfort zones through activities, performances, and group discussions. This exposure helps build confidence, empowering them to share their beliefs, talents, and testimonies with others.

Safe and Wholesome Entertainment

In a world where entertainment choices can impact values, FSY provides a space for wholesome and uplifting activities. From dances to talent shows, the conferences offer opportunities for enjoyment without compromising moral standards.

Preparation for Future Church Responsibilities

FSY serves as a preparatory experience for future Church responsibilities, such as missions and leadership roles. The skills and spiritual foundation acquired during FSY empower youth to take on these responsibilities with confidence and dedication.

I am so impressed with the spiritual, social, and practical benefits my own kids have gained during their time at FSY. And I can’t wait to see how future FSY conferences will contribute to their development of well-rounded, resilient, and faithful individuals who are ready to face the challenges of the world with a strong foundation in their faith.
