Gaining a testimony of the Book of Mormon is more vital now than ever before. Why? Because as the world gets further and further away from God and His teachings, the Book of Mormon serves as a divine witness of Jesus Christ and His teachings, providing guidance and spiritual strength in a world full of challenges and uncertainties.
The Book of Mormon is getting attacked more and more each day. Luckily, it can and will stand the test of time. But will your testimony of the Book of Mormon stand? That’s why it’s so important that each of us gain a personal testimony of the Book of Mormon. Here’s how.
Have a Sincere Desire
The first step to any type of knowledge is having a sincere desire to know. If your desire is to prove it false, or to use it to argue, then I don’t think God will bless you with that knowledge. He knows your heart. Start there.
Pray and Ask
Modern scripture tells us that, “If thou shalt ask, thou shalt receive revelation upon revelation, knowledge upon knowledge, that thou mayest know the mysteries and peaceable things—that which bringeth joy, that which bringeth life eternal” (D&C 42:61). And the Book of Mormon itself promises that when we “ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ, if these things are not true; and if ye shall ask with a sincere heart, with real intent, having faith in Christ, he will manifest the truth of it unto you, by the power of the Holy Ghost.” (Moroni 10:4)
Live its Teachings
We learn in Alma 32 that if we want to have a knowledge of something, we need to experiment upon that thing. If you want a testimony of tithing, pay your tithing. If you want a testimony of the prophet, accept his invitations. If you want a testimony of the Book of Mormon, live what it teaches!
By small and simple things are great things brought to pass. In other words, gaining a testimony of the Book of Mormon is simple. Not easy, but simple. The Book of Mormon is literally written for our day. And I know that it’s true because when I pray about it, the Holy Ghost unmistakably makes it known to me of its truthfulness. And as I live its teachings, I am happier, I feel God’s strength, and I feel closer to Christ.
