President Nelson’s Promises

After studying a recent talk by President Nelson, I noticed the powerful promises he made. (I even created a notebook in Gospel Library with all of them.) It made me curious about other prophetic promises he has given members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, so I did some digging. I may have missed some, but I think this is a pretty comprehensive list of all of President Nelson’s promises since he’s been prophet (with an exception of two before he was prophet that were just too good to leave out). 

I added the paragraph each promise is included in for context, but I did bold out the actual promise. Which ones stand out to you?

 

A Plea to My Sisters – October 2015

So today I plead with my sisters of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to step forward! Take your rightful and needful place in your home, in your community, and in the kingdom of God—more than you ever have before. I plead with you to fulfill President Kimball’s prophecy. And I promise you in the name of Jesus Christ that as you do so, the Holy Ghost will magnify your influence in an unprecedented way!

The Book of Mormon: What Would Your Life Be Like Without It? – October 2017

My dear brothers and sisters, I promise that as you prayerfully study the Book of Mormon ​every day,​ you will make better decisions—​every day.​ I promise that as you ponder what ​​you study, the windows of heaven will open, and you will receive answers to your own questions and direction for your own life. I promise that as you daily immerse yourself in the Book of Mormon, you can be immunized against the evils of the day, even the gripping plague of pornography and other mind-numbing addictions.

Revelation for the Church, Revelation for Our Lives – April 2018

To be sure, there may be times when you feel as though the heavens are closed. But I promise that as you continue to be obedient, expressing ​​gratitude for every blessing the Lord gives you, and as you patiently honor the Lord’s timetable, you will be given the knowledge and understanding you seek. Every blessing the Lord has for you—even miracles—will follow. That is what personal revelation will do for you.

The Correct Name of the Church – October 2018

My dear brothers and sisters, I promise you that if we will do our best to restore the correct name of the Lord’s Church, He whose Church this is will pour down His power and blessings upon the heads of the Latter-day Saints,​​​​ the likes of which we have never seen. We will have the knowledge and power of God to help us take the blessings of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ to every nation, kindred, tongue, and people and to prepare the world for the Second Coming of the Lord.

Sisters Participation in the Gathering of Israel – October 2018

Second, I invite you to read the Book of Mormon between now and the end of the year. As impossible as that may seem with all you are trying to manage in your life, if you will accept this invitation with full purpose of heart, the Lord will help you find a way to achieve it. And, as you prayerfully study, I promise that the heavens will open for you. The Lord will bless you with increased inspiration and revelation.

Becoming Exemplary Latter-day Saints – October 2018

The new home-centered, Church-supported integrated curriculum has the potential to unleash the power of families, as each family follows through conscientiously and carefully to transform their home into a sanctuary of faith. I promise that as you diligently work to remodel your home into a center of gospel learning, over time ​your​ Sabbath days will truly be a delight. ​Your​ children will be excited to learn and to live the Savior’s teachings, and the influence of the adversary in ​your​ life and in ​your​ home will decrease. Changes in your family will be dramatic and sustaining.

During this conference we have strengthened our resolve to execute ​​the essential effort to honor the Lord Jesus Christ ​every​ time we refer to His Church. I promise you that our rigorous attention to use the correct name of the Savior’s Church and its members will lead to increased faith and access to greater spiritual power for members of His Church.

My dear brothers and sisters, the assaults of the adversary are increasing exponentially, in intensity and in variety.​​​​ Our need to be in the temple on a regular basis has never been greater. I plead with you to take a prayerful look at how you spend your time. Invest time in your future and in that of your family. If you have reasonable access to a temple, I urge you to find a way to make an appointment regularly with the Lord—to be in His holy house—then keep that appointment with exactness and joy. I promise you that the Lord will bring the miracles He knows you need as you make sacrifices to serve and worship in His temples.

Hear Him – April 2020

While worshipping in the temple is presently not possible, I invite you to increase your participation in family history, including family history research and indexing. I promise that as you increase your time in temple and family history work, you will increase and improve your ability to hear Him.

What will happen as you more intentionally hear, hearken, and heed what the Savior has said and what He is saying now through His prophets? I promise that you will be blessed with additional power to deal with temptation, struggles, and weakness. I promise miracles in your marriage, family relationships, and daily work. And I promise that your capacity to feel joy will increase even if turbulence increases in your life.

The many inspiring components of this April 2020 general conference—and the sacred week that we now begin—can be summarized by two divinely decreed words: “Hear Him.”​​​​ We pray that your focus on Heavenly Father, who spoke those words, and on His Beloved Son, Jesus Christ, will loom largest in your memories of all that has transpired. We pray that you will begin anew ​truly​ to hear, hearken to, and heed the words of the Savior.​​​​ I promise that decreased fear and increased faith will follow.

The Lord has promised that if we will ask, we may receive “revelation upon revelation.”​​​​ I promise that as you increase your capacity to receive revelation, the Lord will bless you with increased direction for your life and with boundless gifts of the Spirit.

Embrace the Future with Faith – October 2020

I am not saying that the days ahead will be easy, but I promise you that the future will be glorious for those who are prepared and who continue to prepare to be instruments in the Lord’s hands.

I promise that as we create places of security, prepare our minds to be faithful to God, and never stop preparing, God will bless us. He will “deliver us; yea, insomuch that he [will] speak peace to our souls, and [will] grant unto us great faith, and … cause us that we [can] hope for our deliverance in him.”​​

A New Normal – October 2020

Now, my dear brothers and sisters, I bless you to be filled with the peace of the Lord Jesus Christ. His peace is beyond all mortal understanding.​​​​ I bless you with an increased desire and ability to obey the laws of God. I promise that as you do, you will be showered with blessings, including greater courage, increased personal revelation, sweeter harmony in your homes, and joy even amid uncertainty.

The Temple and Your Spiritual Foundation – October 2021

If you don’t yet love to attend the temple, go more often—not less. Let the Lord, through His Spirit, teach and inspire you there. I promise you that over time, the temple will become a place of safety, solace, and revelation.

If it were possible for me to speak one-on-one with every young adult, I would plead with you to seek a companion with whom you can be sealed in the temple. You may wonder what difference this will make in your life. I promise it will make ​all​ the difference! As you marry in the temple and return repeatedly, you will be strengthened and guided in your decisions.

In the same way, the Lord will bless ​you​ with miracles ​if​ you believe in Him, “doubting nothing.”​​​​ Do the spiritual work to seek miracles. Prayerfully ask God to help you exercise that kind of faith. I promise that you can experience for yourself that Jesus Christ “giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength.”​​​​ Few things will accelerate your spiritual momentum more than realizing the Lord is helping you to move a mountain in your life.

The Power of Spiritual Momentum – April 2022

Two weeks from today we celebrate Easter. Between now and then, I invite you to seek an end to a personal conflict that has weighed you down. Could there be a more fitting act of gratitude to Jesus Christ for His Atonement? If forgiveness presently seems impossible, plead for power through the atoning blood of Jesus Christ to help you. As you do so, I promise personal peace and a burst of spiritual momentum.

As you act on these pursuits, I promise you the ability to move forward on the covenant path with increased momentum, despite whatever obstacles you face. And I promise you greater strength to resist temptation, more peace of mind, freedom from fear, and greater unity in your families.

Focus on the Temple – October 2022

It is significant that the Savior chose to appear to the people at the temple. It is His house. It is filled with His power. Let us never lose sight of what the Lord is doing for us now. He is making His temples more accessible. He is accelerating the pace at which we are building temples. He is increasing our ability to help gather Israel. He is also making it easier for each of us to become spiritually refined. I promise that increased time in the temple will bless your life in ways nothing else can.

Overcome the World and Find Rest – October 2022

I call upon you, my dear brothers and sisters, to become this righteous people. Cherish and honor your covenants above all other commitments. As you let God prevail in your life, I promise you greater peace, confidence, joy, and yes, ​rest​.

Rejoice in the Gift of Priesthood Keys – April 2024

Time in the temple will help you to ​think celestial​ and to catch a vision of who you really are, who you can become, and the kind of life you can have forever. Regular temple worship will enhance the way you see yourself and how you fit into God’s magnificent plan. I promise you that.

My dear brothers and sisters, here is my promise. Nothing will help you ​more​ to hold fast to the iron rod​​​​ than worshipping in the temple as regularly as your circumstances permit. Nothing will protect you ​more​ as you encounter the world’s mists of darkness. Nothing will bolster your testimony of the Lord Jesus Christ and His Atonement or help you understand God’s magnificent plan ​more​. Nothing will soothe your spirit ​more​ during times of pain. Nothing will open the heavens ​more​. Nothing!
