One of the most common questions I get asked about scripture study is how to navigate studying the Book of Mormon along with Come, Follow Me. In the case of our 2025 study, we are studying the Doctrine and Covenants. As members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, we are encouraged to study Come, Follow Me in our families at home. But we are also promised great blessings as we study the Book of Mormon daily. So, how can we balance both?
Well, there are a lot of options. If you’re anything like me, you may feel overwhelmed when you think about incorporating both in your personal and family study. But it really doesn’t have to be too complicated. Here are a few ideas.
Choose One Scripture from Both Each Day
One simple way to incorporate both is by choosing one verse from both the Book of Mormon and the Doctrine and Covenants each day. You can discuss them as a family each night before family prayer, or in the morning before you all go your separate ways. Any way that fits your life. Something is better than nothing.
Study Come, Follow Me as a Family and the BOM Individually
This is the method that my family will be doing. Since my kids are all old enough to read the Book of Mormon individually, we each do this in our personal study. Then, each night we gather and discuss scriptures from the Doctrine and Covenants in the Come, Follow Me manual. I’ll share how we do Come, Follow Me as a family later in this post.
I think it’s also important to note the benefit of talking about (and living) the principles of the Book of Mormon daily. Even though we study it individually, there are so many little moments each day where something we’ve learned from the Book of Mormon can be applied. Talk about the stories, share your experiences and your testimony of the Book of Mormon with each other often. And if your kids aren’t old enough to read it daily by themselves, consider the benefit of incorporating it into your family study.
Go All In
You can do it all! However you do Come, Follow Me (whether it’s daily or weekly), take 5-10 minutes and read the Book of Mormon as well. Read it start to finish or study by topic. It doesn’t matter. What does matter is that we are feasting upon the words of Christ every day.
President Nelson promised that as we prayerfully study the Book of Mormon every day, we will make better decisions—every day. He promised that as we ponder what we study, the windows of heaven will open, and we will receive answers to our own questions and direction for our own life. And he promised that as we daily immerse ourselves in the Book of Mormon, we can be immunized against the evils of the day.
Talk about a powerful prophetic promise!
And if you want more out of your scripture study but not sure where to start, this guide might be just what you’re looking for! Learn several unique methods to study your scriptures, download your choice of reading charts, schedules, and bookmarks, and of course – get some inspiration and motivation to actually study your scriptures.
And finally, here’s a little rundown of how my family studies Come, Follow Me…
My Family’s Scripture Study System
With multiple teenagers always coming and going, and a busy bishop husband, this method has been really successful for my family for over a year now. And the best part is that it checks off our personal Come Follow Me study and even helps our children learn how to teach the gospel to others. It’s a win-win-win. Here’s how it works.
The first step (and by far the most time-consuming) is assigning a scripture passage to each day of the year. You can do this week by week, month by month, or like me – input the whole year at one time. For example, for the first week of January, I went to the Come Follow Me website and clicked on that week’s Come Follow Me. Then I scrolled through to find scripture passages for each day of the week. January 1st is the Title Page of the BOM, January 2nd is the Intro to the BOM, and so on.
Next, I went to my Google Calendar and wrote in each day’s passages as an all day event. I saved it in our Family’s calendar that is shared with my husband and all of our children. That way, each day it will show them what the scripture passage is. I even saved a link in the event description so that they can click on it and it will automatically pull up the scripture.
It is each family member’s responsibility to read the scripture passage sometime during the day. It’s usually only a few verses, so it doesn’t take very long. Next, I assigned a day of the week to every member of my family. When it’s that person’s day, their job is to be in charge of leading a discussion, sharing a thought, or asking a question about that day’s scripture passage. Sometimes we have deep discussions, but usually we just listen to the thoughts of whoever is sharing that day.
After your calendar is all set up, this method only takes 5-10 minutes at the end of each day. But as everyone reads on their own sometime during the day, the scriptures are already on their mind and they are thinking about what they mean – especially if they are the one in charge of sharing a thought.
I’ve seen so many benefits of this system in the last year that we have been doing it. I’ve even made the calendar shareable! If you would like my 2025 CFM Google Calendar, just click HERE.

Thank you for your suggestions. We are on a mission in Rosario Argentina working in the office. One would think that retired people would have all the time in the world after raising a family and being busy with them!! Well, for some reason, I am still struggling to get everything done and get everything read!!
Thank for sharing your insight to organizing it easily.

Thank you for all your post. They are amazing. I really enjoy them.
I have been thinking about how to combine the Come Follow Me study with the Book of Mormon Next year. After President Nelson’s conference address yesterday, I have decided to start my Book of Mormon study with all things Atonement and keep a separate journal just for that. Then, if there’s time, move onto discipleship. I love the idea of organizing a section of scripture for each day for Come Follow Me. I’ll be trying that. Side note, so excited for the Doctrine and Covenants! Love your posts.
Great ideas and THANK YOU for sharing your hard work on the Calendar! That will be amazing!
Thank you so much for sharing this! I have always struggled trying to do it all. I get overwhelmed very easily. Thank you again ☺️
