One of the most life-changing habits we can develop is consistent Book of Mormon study. It’s one of the greatest blessings in my life and I truly believe that nothing can replace reading the Book of Mormon itself – cover to cover, line upon line, day after day. It is a living book, written for our time, and we need its power every single day. No study guide, video, or commentary will ever substitute for that personal, Spirit-filled experience of simply opening the book and letting God’s words sink deep into our hearts.
That being said, I’ve also found that certain study tools can help me dig deeper, understand context, and apply the teachings more personally. Think of them as companions to your scripture study—not a replacement. When I pair my daily reading with these supplements, the Book of Mormon comes alive in new and meaningful ways.
Here are some of my favorite Book of Mormon study supplements:
The Book of Mormon Student Manual (Institute Edition)
If you’ve ever felt stuck or confused while reading, this manual is a game-changer. It offers historical context, explanations of hard-to-understand verses, and insights from prophets and apostles. It’s like having a teacher walk you through your study. You can find it in gospel library.
The Book of Mormon Made Easier
This is my personal favorite study guide. It does such a great job at breaking it down and teaching in a powerful and easy-to-understand way! You will learn so much!
I used this one a few years ago and it helped me understand the Book of Mormon in a whole new way. You can doodle, or draw, or write all your new insights!
One Minute Scripture Study
Just like it says, you can study with this guide in one minute a day. Learn new insights and follow the discussion prompts and questions to dive even deeper. Great for all ages.
The Annotated Book of Mormon
This one is high on my list to study with! This is the first fully annotated, academic edition of the Book of Mormon in its 200-year history. Modelled after the Oxford line of annotated Bibles, it provides readers with the information they need to understand this classic text of American religious history.
Along with short devotional-style lessons, the invitations in this book will lead you to a more meaningful, personal study of the Book of Mormon and vibrant discussions with your family and friends about its teachings.
BYU Speeches & General Conference Talks
I love pairing my Book of Mormon study with related talks from prophets, apostles, and gospel scholars. BYU Speeches offers a huge library of deep doctrinal talks, while General Conference gives us the words of living prophets today.
President Nelson promised that “as you prayerfully study the Book of Mormon every day, you will make better decisions—every day.” Even one single verse has the power to bring peace, direction, and strength. These study supplements are just here to enhance that daily practice and help you dive even deeper. The Spirit will always be your best teacher during your Book of Mormon study.
