My Gospel Study Routine (The Real, Everyday Version)

gospel study routine

I get asked a lot about my gospel study routine, and I always hesitate a little before answering, because it’s not fancy, and it’s definitely not perfect.

But it is consistent in small ways, and over time, those small ways have mattered more than I ever expected.

So here it is: my real, everyday gospel study routine- shared not as a blueprint, but as an encouragement.

The Book of Mormon Comes First (Literally)

I keep my Book of Mormon right next to my bed. That part is very intentional.

Most mornings, before I get on my phone or even get out of bed, I try to read a chapter. Sometimes it’s a few verses. Occasionally, it’s one verse that I sit with longer than I planned.

This habit matters to me because it sets the tone. Before the noise, before the notifications, before the to-do list, I let the word of God speak first. Even when the reading is short, it anchors me in truth before the day starts pulling at my attention.

How I Plan to Study the Old Testament and the Book of Mormon in 2026

Mondays Are for Come, Follow Me

On Mondays, I listen to the Come, Follow Me manual while I’m getting ready for the day or out on a morning walk.

I love this because it takes the pressure off. I’m not sitting down with a notebook and highlighters. I’m just listening. Letting ideas wash over me. Noticing what stands out. Trusting that the Spirit knows what I need to hear, even if I’m also brushing my hair or tying my shoes.

General Conference Talks

On Tuesdays and Fridays, I listen to a general conference talk while I’m getting ready. Afterward, I discuss it with a friend over Marco Polo.

This has become one of my favorite parts of my routine. There’s something powerful about processing gospel truths out loud, especially with someone who’s also trying, also learning, also imperfect. It reminds me that gospel study doesn’t have to be a solo act.

Sometimes our discussions are deep. Sometimes they’re simple. All of them help the message sink in.

Family Study

For family gospel study, I keep things simple and flexible. We use the We Believe app or the book One Minute Scripture Study to talk about Come, Follow Me together.

Most often, this happens around the dinner table. Sometimes it’s later in the evening before bed. Occasionally, it’s squeezed into a moment I didn’t plan on.

Is it consistent every single day? No. But we try. And I’ve learned that trying is still powerful.

Progress Over Perfection

This routine doesn’t make me “perfect” at gospel study. But it helps me show up more often than I would otherwise.

And that’s the point.

If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s this: the Lord loves effort. He works with our real lives, our limited time, our busy schedules, and our sincere (even if messy) attempts.

If you’re building your own routine, start small. Put the scriptures where you’ll see them. Listen when reading feels hard. Invite others into the conversation. And give yourself grace.

Small, consistent efforts invite big, lasting light.

  1. I love your idea of keeping a copy of the Book of Mormon beside your bed to read first thing in the morning. I think I would like to try this.

  2. Thank you for sharing♥️ I am convert to the church….I have struggled with trying to do every study on everyday of the week. I could not keep up and felt like I would never caught up to the sisters in RS that could pull quotes or scripture stright out mid sentence. I feel at ease that this is a process of learning.

  3. My quiet time is sacred. First thing I do before the day gets started… it’s my God before Google time.
