What Women in Amazing Marriages Know

amazing marriages

What is the secret to having an amazing marriage? Is it finding your soul-mate; someone who was made to compliment you perfectly in every way? That sounds nice, but we both know it’s an unrealistic idea.

The truth is you are in control of your own happiness in life and especially in your marriage. If you are lucky enough to have one of these amazing marriages, here are a few things you already know.

Love Yourself

The first thing women in amazing marriages know is that you have to learn to love yourself. No relationship will work unless you do. Stand on your own two feet and don’t be needy. Your marriage should be a wonderful partnership, but not a relationship where you lean on your spouse for more support than you are willing to give.

This Too Shall Pass

Tempers are a normal part of human emotion. While it’s important to remember not to let your temper get out of hand, it’s also important to remember that they will inevitably pass like a summer storm. Tempers are temporary, so give the situation some space.

Marriage Takes Work

Even the best of marriages require a lot of work. Every couple hits bumps in the road, but that doesn’t mean that you are wrong for each other or that you should give up. It happens to all of us. Be prepared to work on your relationship every day.

Admire and Support

One of your husband’s basic needs is admiration. This is not usually something that men straight up ask for. Be intentional in how you show him that you love and support everything he does for you and your family. Take care of each other throughout it all.

Power of Partnership

The power of partnership in marriage is under-recognized in our society. There’s a focus on “feminism” that says women should be treated the same as men. In a good marriage, a husband and wife should be equal, but different. A true partnership creates cooperation and makes up for the other’s weaknesses. That’s what makes a marriage work.

Be Vulnerable

When an argument arises in your marriage, just stop and be vulnerable. It’s natural to want to put up your defenses see who can be more stubborn. Instead, try speaking from an honest and loving place and your husband will be able to feel it.

Best Friends

When you get frustrated with your husband, it can be tempting to want to vent to your mom or your girlfriends. We want to feel validated. This is dangerous and puts your family and friends into a situation where they have to choose sides. Go to your spouse first.

No Drama

Women in amazing marriages don’t feed into the drama. Sometimes an issue will arise and you think you should be mad, so you are. If you’re not really mad about it, don’t make yourself mad about it because you think you should be. Embrace your maturity. Your marriage will be better because of it.

Prioritize

I once heard someone say that if your career is the most important thing to you, don’t get married. I agree in that once you do get married, that relationship needs to be your first priority. It should come before your career and even before your children. This is not to say that you should neglect your goals or children, but that you should know your priorities and honor them. If your marriage is not first, it will be the first to suffer. As women we want to be able to have it all, but that idea is unrealistic. What is your priority?

Right from the beginning I promised myself I would never say anything negative about Brad to {a n y o n e} because o went out for dinner with some women who spent the whole night comparing about their husbands. And the no drama! Brad never has to “guess” what I’m thinking 😂
