Last week we embarked on another season of #LightTheWorld, this year focusing on the phrase One by One. Many of us also recently finished an invitation from President Nelson to flood the earth with goodness by using #GiveThanks on social media. Certainly this is a year that the world needs our righteous influence more than ever.
Every week I write, post, and share ideas on how you can influence the world with your unique voice and spiritual gifts. True disciples of Jesus Christ have always been concerned for the one. I’m passionate about the purpose we all have, and how we can all work together to accomplish it. But as I’ve been pondering on the phrase one by one, I can’t help but think that it’s also important to remember that you are known and loved individually as His child.
Jesus Christ ministers to, and loves us all, one by one. He was surrounded by multitudes and spoke to thousands, yet He always had concern for the one. But the work of salvation is individual. Becoming perfected in Him is individual. The choice to come unto Him is individual.
I can’t deny the times I have felt God’s arms around me, or the distinct answers to my very personalized prayer. Those experiences are pillars in my life when I am feeling down or forgotten. But it takes daily effort on our part. God loves us with an everlasting love. That never changes. It’s our job to draw closer to Him.
President Ballard said, “every member of the Church is entitled to and can develop an apostolic-like relationship with the Lord.” How can this knowledge change your life? It’s a beautiful cycle. As you come to truly know your Savior and feel God’s love for you, your desire to serve others will increase.
This month, let’s not only focus on serving one by one, but also to strive to come unto Him, one by one.
