I’m not really a “purse person,” but I have always had a need for a church bag. They have changed a lot over the years as I’ve had babies, toddlers, and teens. Right now, I really don’t have need to take much to church. Thank goodness, because I’m a minimalist all the way. In fact, you may be familiar with my unpopular opinion about what I took for my kids during sacrament meeting. But now that they are older, here’s a peek at what’s in my church bag.
Threads Utility Tote
I actually bought this bag for traveling, as it fits my laptop, tumbler, books, and everything in between. But I love it too much not to use it for church! It has a place for everything, from my clipboard, to church magazines, to my drink, scriptures, and more! However, if you’re looking for a nicer looking bag, I have my eye on this black tote from Madewell.
Stanley Flip Straw Tumbler
As my husband puts it, I always gotta have my “sippy cup.” This is the one I bring to church because the color is subtle, and this type doesn’t leak or spill at all. So, I throw it in my bag and get my hydration during class.
I also love this one! If you love not having the spout touch anything else, you’ll love this!
Church Magazines
This is the only thing I bring for my kids to do during sacrament meeting. My youngest is 12, so he sometimes still gets bored. And now you can get the church magazines for free!
Blank notebook
This is my favorite blank notebook and I always keep it on hand. I use it to take notes during talks, meetings, whatever!
Youth Lesson Outline
My current calling is a YW advisor, so I always keep a copy of this youth lesson outline and conducting/counsel together sheet in my bag so that I can give one to whoever is teaching the next week. Or, I might need it to give to whoever is conducting that week. Either way, I always have a blank copy ready to go in my bag. I love how it helps the youth plan and teach a lesson without us having to do it for them.
If you’re a relief society teacher or in the presidency, this one is for you! This outline includes 5 tips for a killer lesson, and offers a template for creating an effective, memorable Relief Society class discussion. Encourage interaction and belonging in your group. Conducting sheet also included.
Clipboard
I love these clipboards and always keep one in my bag. I mostly use them to keep my youth lesson outline on, but it’s great for any other papers that I happen to need to get from others.
We better not forget to take our scriptures! I love this wide-margin Book of Mormon set where I can journal or doodle any extra thoughts I have! Also comes in Doctrine & Covenants, Old Testament and New Testament!
Pens
A bag is not complete without a pen or two inside, right? These exact pens are my absolute favorite to use! They’re the only ones I will buy.
L’Oreal Lipstick in Sandstone
If you’ve been here awhile, you know that this is my absolute favorite lipstick. I wear it everyday, whether I’m staying home or going out. It looks good on everyone too!
Vanilla Cashmere Hand Cream
I always need some hand lotion, especially in the dry area where I live. This is one of my favorite scents! Keeps my hands so soft!
Lindt Lindor Double Chocolate Truffles
And finally, can’t go without a little chocolate in my church bag. Except for fast Sunday, of course.
What do you keep in your church bag?

I have a couple of boogie boards in mine, for my teens that still struggle to sit still and need something to do. Doodling is always a good time while you listen to talks.
