We have been taught that each of us has spiritual gifts. They are a gift from God for our benefit. It is our right and responsibility to accept our gifts and to share them. Spiritual gifts can guide and enrich our lives. They can help us magnify our calling, help guide us in our relationships, and help us avoid being deceived. But sometimes it’s hard to recognize our spiritual gifts. Do you know what yours are?
We can also seek for spiritual gifts that we desire or that we don’t have yet. Some spiritual gifts are identified in the scriptures, but there are so many more that many of us aren’t aware of. In fact, I have a list of 72 additional spiritual gifts and I bet you have at least one!
So, how can seek and develop the spiritual gifts God has given you? How can you seek and develop gifts that you desire? Here are 3 ideas to get you started.
Ask
Pray and ask God what spiritual gifts He has blessed you with or which ones you should strive for. He wants and is willing to help you. Another idea is to search in your patriarchal blessing. Ask your family and close friends what spiritual gifts they see in you. You might not recognize the same ones others do.
Analyze
Spiritual gifts require effort to receive them. If there is a certain spiritual gift you want to develop, consider learning more about it from the scriptures, your patriarchal blessing, or general conference talks. If you see that a friend or family member has a spiritual gift you desire, ask them about their experience or thoughts about it. Take my course on Steps to Discovering Your Spiritual Gifts! Act
Discovering your spiritual gifts is great and all, but you need to put that knowledge to use. When you exercise faith in Jesus Christ, repent, and keep your covenants, you are eligible to receive and use your spiritual gifts. Find situations where you can put them to use. Remember that these gifts not only benefit you, but they can also benefit others.
God wants to bless you with spiritual gifts. As you develop and share them, and seek to benefit from the gifts of others, God’s work will move forward and the world will be a better place. I have found that as we seek and strengthen our spiritual gifts, our faith in Him will increase and our true destiny will be fulfilled.
