11 Relief Society Activities That Take Practically Zero Planning

Let’s be honest: I love a good Relief Society activity, but I do not love the idea that every activity needs a committee, a theme, decorations, a sign-up sheet, and three months of planning.

Sometimes the best activities are the ones that are simple enough to say, “Hey, let’s do this tonight.”

Here are 11 Relief Society activities that take practically zero planning, and still give sisters a chance to connect, laugh, learn, and feel a little more strengthened.

1. Come as You Are

Skip the theme and invite sisters to come exactly as they are. No food assignments, no decorations, no program. Just gather, put out some treats if you have them, and give everyone time to visit. Sometimes what sisters need most is simply a place to belong.

2. Scripture Speed Dating

Put sisters in pairs and give them five minutes to answer a question together, such as: What scripture has helped you recently? or What are you learning about Jesus Christ right now? Switch partners a few times. It’s an easy way to get sisters talking to people they might not normally sit with.

3. Bring Your Favorite

Tell everyone to bring one favorite thing: a book, kitchen gadget, recipe, scripture study tool, beauty product, podcast recommendation, or anything else they love. Let sisters show what they brought and explain why they love it. It’s basically a Relief Society show-and-tell for adults.

4. Walk & Talk

Meet at a local park or just walk around the church building or neighborhood together. Pair people up and give them a question to discuss. No lesson, no activity, no supplies. Just movement and conversation.

5. One Good Thing

Give each sister a piece of paper and ask her to write down one good thing God has done for her recently. Collect the papers anonymously and read them aloud. It can become a surprisingly powerful reminder that the Lord is working in the ordinary parts of our lives.

6. The Five-Minute Service Project

Put a few simple supplies on a table—blank cards, pens, and envelopes. Spend five minutes writing notes to missionaries, widows, new members, young women, or someone who might need encouragement. Then you’re done. No elaborate service project required.

7. Relief Society Game Night

Keep it ridiculously simple: Pictionary, Scattergories, trivia, charades, or a few rounds of “Would You Rather?” Divide into teams and let the fun happen. You don’t need a spiritual lesson at every activity. Sisters are allowed to laugh together.

8. Teach Me Something

Invite three or four sisters to teach everyone something they know how to do in five minutes. It could be folding a fitted sheet, making the perfect sandwich, organizing a pantry, taking better pictures, finding a scripture, or anything else. You’ll be amazed at how much talent is sitting in your Relief Society.

9. Come with a Question

Instead of preparing a lesson, put one meaningful gospel question on the board: What helps you feel close to the Savior? or What have you learned about prayer through experience? Give sisters time to talk in small groups, then invite anyone who wants to share to share with everyone.

10. Dessert & Doctrine

Buy a few desserts from the grocery store. Then choose one short General Conference message or scripture and spend 20–30 minutes discussing what stood out to you. Dessert + gospel conversation = an activity I can get behind.

11. The Sisterhood Swap

Invite sisters to bring something they no longer need, but someone else might love—a book, home item, craft supply, gently used accessory, or unopened product. Put everything on tables and let everyone “shop” for free. Anything left over can be donated.

The goal of a Relief Society activity doesn’t have to be impressive. It can simply be a chance for sisters to walk through the door, feel welcome, talk to someone they don’t know very well, laugh a little, and leave feeling more connected.

Honestly, that sounds like a pretty successful Relief Society activity to me!
